About the Documents

Our documents are drafted primarily for the protection of the equine professional, whether you are a stable operator, trainer, run a stud farm or simply give lessons on weekends.  Our objective has always been to decrease your risk and limit your liability (and any consequential damages) to the fullest extent as allowed by the laws of your state.  They are aggressively drafted to protect your interests.  However, you are free to edit them on your word processing system.  Just a tip…you should be wary of any customer who refuses to sign a written agreement as it may indicate a mind set on their part that is not in your best interests.

These documents have evolved over a quarter century of actual experiences in virtually all facets of the horse business.  Each time one of the law firm’s clients had a new problem arise, provisions were added to deal with previously unanticipated events. As a consequence, you will receive the benefit of the problems and misfortunes (and the learning experiences therefrom) of a great number of horse farms going back to 1977.

The most recent additions to our collection of equine activity contracts is the Broodmare Lease and the Performance Horse Lease.  These are drafted in a more neutral fashion as there is no way to determine in advance whether you, the purchaser of this product, will be leasing your horse to someone else or you will be leasing the horse for your own use from a third party.  As a consequence, the lease agreements do require additional input and a consideration on your part in order to complete them accurately.  You will be required to indicate whether lessor or leasee is responsible for certain costs and activities as well as establish an overall value for the animal which is the subject of the lease.  It is not a daunting task by any means.  The leases simply contain a few additional variables that only you can provide.
